Carl Jung believed in a “collective unconscious” which can be best described as an inherited pattern of thought developed over thousands of years. He is credited with developing archetypal psychology, a practice that uses symbols as tools to interpret dreams. His goal was to help his patients develop a healthy relationship with their subconscious and create a strong sense of self, and my work is a visual exploration of similar concepts.
My compositions are typically made up of patterned areas juxtaposed with stylized images that are meant to invoke the classic archetypes of the shadow, male, female, the divine and the self. The patterns and symbols I have developed for use in my artwork are a lexicon that I draw from to share my thoughts on the human experience and how we can grow through the personal reflection of our inner workings.
